Overview

The EcoFlow RIVER 2 is the compact power station for RV, apartment router-backup, and portable communications kits. It is not the biggest battery in the catalog, but it is light, fast to recharge, and large enough for the low-draw network gear, radio chargers, phones, hotspot, and scheduled Starlink Mini sessions that define a practical command post.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • 0–100% charge in 60 minutes via AC — fastest in class for sub-300Wh stations
  • 256Wh LFP battery rated for 3,000+ cycles (~10 years daily use)
  • 300W AC output handles low-draw network gear, radio chargers, and small consumer electronics
  • Lightweight at 7.7 lbs — 30% lighter than comparable stations
  • 5 charging inputs: AC, car 12V, solar, USB-C, generator — flexible off-grid recharge

Cons

  • 256Wh capacity is modest — Starlink Mini sessions and AC inverter losses can drain it quickly
  • 300W AC output excludes high-draw appliances (AC units, microwaves)
  • No built-in waterproofing — needs protection from rain in open van/truck-bed use
  • Does not guarantee apartment broadband if upstream building or ISP equipment loses power
  • Currently shows as sold-out on EcoFlow's own shop; Amazon availability varies

The Right Size For Mobile Comms

A 256Wh station is small by home-backup standards, but it makes sense in a rig. It can run a radio charging station, top off phones, power a small router or hotspot, and give a Starlink Mini a measured session without hauling a 25-pound box for every weekend trip.

The RIVER 2 also uses LFP chemistry, which is a better fit for gear that may cycle often. It charges quickly from AC when you get a shore-power window and can take solar or vehicle charging when the rig is moving.

Apartment Router Backup Fit

For renters, the RIVER 2 is the cleanest existing OutageKit pick for ordinary AC network gear. Put the modem, router, gateway, or ONT on the station, keep one phone on Wi-Fi calling, and run a breaker-off drill before storm season.

That does not guarantee broadband. In a shared building, upstream telecom closets, powered coax or fiber equipment, ISP nodes, and outside plant can fail before the signal reaches your unit. The RIVER 2 solves your outlet problem, not the whole ISP path.

Where Capacity Runs Out

Do not buy this expecting all-night satellite internet plus lights plus fans. A Starlink Mini can drain a small station in a single working day, and high-draw AC loads are out of scope.

The honest use is scheduled power: bring the satellite link up when you need it, charge the handhelds and phones, keep low-draw router gear alive for a measured window, then shut down high-draw gear. If your kit needs overnight medical-device backup or a household storm hub, move to a 1kWh-class station and test the exact load.

Kit Role

In the RV and van kit, the RIVER 2 is the middle buffer between vehicle power and communications gear. In the apartment kit, it is the AC network-gear buffer that the smaller USB-C bank cannot be. In both roles, the visible state of charge prevents silent power drift during a long outage.

Our Verdict

The EcoFlow RIVER 2 is the compact AC/DC power station for apartment router backup, RV kits, and scheduled satellite sessions. At 256Wh it can run low-draw modem/router/gateway gear, radio chargers, phones, and measured Starlink Mini windows, but it is not an indefinite off-grid internet plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the RIVER 2 run a Starlink Mini?
Yes, but not indefinitely. Treat it as a several-hour session battery for the dish, and use the AC adapter or a confirmed compatible DC/USB-C PD cable path.
Can it keep Wi-Fi calling alive in an apartment?
It can power many low-draw modem, router, gateway, or ONT setups, which is the part you control. It cannot keep upstream building telecom gear or ISP outside plant online, so test the exact path before relying on it.
Is this enough for a CPAP?
It may run some CPAP setups for a short emergency window, but it is not the caregiver pick. Use a larger pure-sine station or a dedicated CPAP battery for medical-dependent planning.
Why choose this over a USB-C power bank?
Choose the RIVER 2 when you need AC outlets, solar input, or a larger shared power hub. Choose a power bank when you only need phones and USB-C devices.
